Ari Aster (born July 15, 1986 in New York ) is an American director and screenwriter .

Life

Ari Aster was born in New York, grew up in New Mexico and studied directing at the AFI Conservatory in Los Angeles, where he earned a master's degree. After several short films such as The Strange Thing About the Johnsons , Munchausen and Basically , which he presented at the Sundance Film Festival , the South by Southwest Film Festival, the New York Film Festival and the Fantastic Fest, Aster directed Hereditary - The Legacy . and also screenplay debut in a feature film. The film, with Toni Collette and Alex Wolff in the lead roles, celebrated its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2018 and was presented at the South by Southwest Film Festival in March 2018.

After the success of Hereditary , Aster said he had a number of other ideas for films.

In late June 2020, Aster became a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences .
