Ariaramna I.

Ariaramna I ( old Persian Aryau-ramna , Babylonian Ariaramna , Elamian Harriyaraumna , Greek Ariaramnes ; * before 645 BC) was the third king of the ancient Persian Achaemenid Empire . He was the younger son of King Teispes , followed him together with his older brother Cyrus I and ruled from 640 BC. As king of Parsumasch . His name means: the Aryans pacifying .

His life

His father Teispes had previously divided the territory for his two sons. While Cyrus I Anshan got Ariaramna I was Parsumasch assigned. Of the original 12 tribes under Teispes, the area of ​​Ariaramna I. still comprised 10 tribes.

After the conquest by the Median king Kyaxares II. Ariaramna I was unwilling to act as a vassal king. He was therefore removed from office by Kyaxares II. In this context, Cyrus I was given his former dominion for administration.

Ariaramna was succeeded by his son Arshama I as king of the Persis region
