Aribert Rothenberger

Aribert Rothenberger (born November 21, 1944 in Wörrstadt ) is a German child and youth psychiatrist .

Life

Rothenberger studied medicine from 1966 to 1971 at the University of Mainz , where he received his doctorate in 1972. From 1972 to 1983 he worked in child and adolescent psychiatry, psychiatry and neurology at the University of Essen and the University of Ulm ; In the course of this he was recognized as a neurologist in 1980 and as a doctor in child and adolescent psychiatry in 1982 .

From 1983 to 1994 he worked at the Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Clinic at the Central Institute for Mental Health in Mannheim, where he earned his doctorate in child and adolescent psychiatry at the University of Heidelberg in 1985 and was appointed professor in 1987 . He was also recognized there in 1992 and 1994 as a psychotherapist and supervisor in behavioral therapy .

From 1994 to 2016 he was director of the clinic and polyclinic for child and adolescent psychiatry at the University of Göttingen .

Act

He is involved in several groups on Tourette syndrome and autism , is honorary chairman and member of the scientific advisory board of the Tourette-Gesellschaft Deutschland e. V. (TGD). In the dispute with Gerald Hüther about the effects of methylphenidate in long-term use and his recommendation for psychoanalysis , Rothenberger distanced himself from Huether's views on attention deficit / hyperactivity disorder .

Awards

Rothenberger received the Saarland ADHD Research Award in 2010 in recognition of his achievements in research in the field of attention deficit / hyperactivity disorder .
