Arigaba ( Chinese: Bèi'érzhījīn Āsùjíbā , 孛 兒 只 斤 阿 速 吉 八; Mongolian ᠠᠰᠣᠴᠢᠪᠢ , * 1320 ; † 1328 ) was the son of Yesun Timur Khan, an emperor of the Yuan dynasty . He only ruled in 1328.

Life

Arigaba was the eldest son of Yesun Timur Khan , his mother came from the Khunggirad clan . At the time of his birth, his mother's clan retained power in the empire by marrying into the imperial family. In 1324, Arigaba was made crown prince as a toddler . When Yesun Timur Khan suddenly passed away in Xanadu in 1328 , the young prince was enthroned on the spot by the powerful Muslim officer Dawlat Shah shortly afterwards.

However, the surprising death of the ancient Khagan led to a partial uprising of the ruling clans. They were extremely dissatisfied that Yesun Timur Khan had concentrated all power on his favorites, especially the Muslim Dawlat Shah. Within a few days, the city commander of Dadu El Temür undertook a coup d'état and demanded the elevation of Külüq Khan's son Toqa Timur as the new khagan. He was kindly received in Dadu in the same month that Arigaba was enthroned in Xanadu.

Arigaba's army led a campaign against Dadu, but suffered a crushing defeat against El Temur's forces. Thereupon the general Örüg Temür undertook the siege of Xanadu and took the city for the new Khagan Toqa Timur. Dawlat Shah was executed after the surrender , the fate of the young Khagan Arigaba is unknown.
