Yesun Timur Khan

Yesun Timur ( Mongolian ᠶᠡᠰᠦᠨ ᠲᠡᠮᠦᠷ ; * 1276 ; † August 15, 1328 in what was then Shangdu ) was a Mongolian Khagan and under the name Jinzong also emperor of the Yuan dynasty . He ruled from 1323 to 1328, marking the decline of this dynasty.

Life

Yesun Timur was initially the governor of Mongolia as the son of Kamala and grandson of Kubilai's crown prince Gengkim . After the murder of Buyantu Khan's successor Suddhipala in 1323, the conspirators proclaimed him the new ruler. He confirmed the conspirators in their actions until he had secured the capitals, and then eliminated them.

The khagan is described by the Chinese chroniclers as simple-minded and indolent. During his reign in 1324 the lower course of the Yellow River was relocated , which resulted in floods, great famine and the first uprisings. The Mongols could not end the guerrilla war, which led to the establishment of private militias and the worsening of the internal situation.

His most important problem, however, was the question of succession, since his eldest son Arigaba was a minor. Yesun Timur was forced to contact Khaischan's sons, Qoshila and Toqa Timur , or to release the latter. After his death on August 15, 1328, this led to the Succession War, which Toqa Timur (he ruled 1328-1332) was able to win.
