Aristocles (son of Cleoitas)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Aristocles ( Greek  Ἀριστοκλῆς ) was a Greek sculptor who worked in the second half of the 5th century BC. Was active.

Aristocles was the son of Cleoitas and possibly the grandson of Aristocles from Sicyon . Pausanias writes that Aristocles had created a group of sculptures for installation in Olympia on behalf of a Gnathis from Thessaly . It showed Zeus and Ganymede . It is unclear whether he was also the artist who carried out the restoration work on the relief at the base of the Athena Parthenos created by Phidias on the Acropolis of Athens .
