Aristotle is an impact crater in the northeast of the moon front on the southern edge of the Mare Frigoris . It is a large crater with a terraced wall. Its southeastern rim partially covers the neighboring Mitchell Crater . Aristotle forms a striking pair with the somewhat smaller Eudoxus crater to the south .

The crater was officially named by the IAU in 1935 after the Greek philosopher Aristotle .
