Armand Berton
Armand Berton (born September 16, 1854 in Paris ; † September 29, 1917 there ) was a French deaf genre and nude painter, illustrator and etcher.
Life and career
Armand Berton initially studied at the Ecole des Arts Decoratifs with Alexandre Laemlein (1813–1871). Attacked by complete deafness early on, he continued his studies on March 19, 1872 at the École des beaux-arts de Paris with Alexandre Cabanel and Adolphe Yvon .
Armand Berton became a member of the Société nationale des beaux-arts in 1892 and exhibited there from 1875 to 1910. In 1900 he was made a Knight of the Legion of Honor .
His Paris studio was at 60 rue Madame, then at 9 rue de Bagneux.
From 1905 to 1915 he also created etchings . He illustrated two books:
- Theokritos , Œuvres , traduction de Paul Desjardins , Paris, Société des Cent bibliophiles, 1910, edition of 130 pieces with 36 etchings.
- Jules Lemaître , Trois contes en marge d'Homère , Paris, Les Amis des livres, 1921, edition of 110 pieces with 37 etchings.
