Alexandre Laemlein (born December 9, 1813 in Hohenfeld (Kitzingen) , † April 27, 1871 in Pontlevoy , Loir-et-Cher department ) was a French painter and lithographer of German origin.

Life

Alexandre ( Alexander ) Laemlein came in 1823, at the age of just ten years, along with his uncle, the chess player Aaron Alexandre , after Paris . Before 1828 he received his first training in an etching workshop there before he studied painting from March 31, 1829 at the École des Beaux-Arts with Jean-Baptiste Regnault . After Regnault's death, Laemlein continued his studies with François-Édouard Picot in 1830 . In these circles he also made the acquaintance of Jean Alaux , with whom he repeatedly undertook smaller study trips until 1839. Between 1835 and 1839 Laemlein was involved in the restoration of the Henri II Gallery in Fontainebleau by Alaux.

Under King Louis-Philippe I , Laemlein was granted French citizenship on July 9, 1835.

With the support of his teachers, Laemlein was able to take part in the annual exhibition of the Salon de Paris for the first time in 1836 and one of his works was awarded a 3rd prize that year . In the following years up to 1870 he then regularly sent the salon, receiving medals for works exhibited in the salon in 1841, 1843 and 1859.

In 1855, the École spéciale de dessin de Paris entrusted Laemlein with a teaching position. Armand Berton and Lazar Meyer were among his most important students there .

Alexandre Laemlein died on April 27, 1871 in Pontlevoy, where he found his final resting place.
