Adolphe Yvon (born January 30 (deviating from February 1 or 12) 1817 in Eschviller , Lorraine , † September 11, 1893 in Paris ) was a French painter.

Life

He was born the son of Pierre Nicolas Yvon (1776–1848) and his wife Anne Marie, born in Worms-Neuhausen . Neumayer (1789-1869). The mother's twin brother was Maximilian Georg Joseph Neumayer (1789–1866), French division general and Grand Officer of the Legion of Honor .

Yvon was a student of the painter Paul Delaroche . In 1843 he undertook a study trip through the tsarist empire, which was reflected artistically in many pictures. In 1855 he took part in the Crimean War as the official battle painter of the French government . On August 8, 1857, his son Maurice Yvon was born in Paris.

In 1883 the painter was appointed professor at the École polytechnique in Paris.
