Armando Marçal

Armando de Souza Marçal (born December 17, 1956 in Rio de Janeiro ; also called Marçalzinho ) is a Brazilian percussionist .

Life

Armando Marçal began making music at the age of 14. He comes from a well-known Brazilian family of musicians. His father Mestre Marçal (1930–1994) ran the largest Brazilian samba school GRES Portela from 1978 to 1986 , while his grandfather Armando Marçal was a well-known samba composer and who formed a famous samba duo with Alcebíades Barcelos . As Mestre Marçalzinho, he also headed the bateria (drumming group) of GRES Portela in 2005 .

Armando Marçal played for numerous international artists, including Pat Metheny , Paul Simon , Don Cherry , Gal Costa and many others. In Germany he played for the singer Stephan Remmler on the song Vogel der Nacht (1986). He made his first solo CD in 2006, which was released by Scud in 2007 under the title Lado a Lado .
