“Bornholm” is a motif that was created on the Danish island during one of the painter's numerous stays there.
“A Dream” by Armin Hirn is reminiscent of Japanese ink drawings.

Armin Hirn (born May 12, 1918 in Wackersberg near Bad Tölz , † March 25, 1996 in Munich ) was a Munich watercolor painter .

life and work

After graduating from high school in 1937, Armin Hirn began studying art as a teacher, which he completed at the Technical University and the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich . His first and second state examination took place in 1941 and 1943. After that he was a war participant. From 1948 Hirn worked as an art teacher at the grammar school in Munich-Pasing and at the upper secondary school in Erding (today: Anne Frank grammar school). In addition, he took an active part in Munich's art life until the 1980s, taking part in exhibitions in the Haus der Kunst ( Munich artists' cooperative ). Hirn created large-format watercolors (up to 65 × 85 cm) in an individual wet-on-wet technique , often with large areas of paint from a rich palette. Hirn's pictures reminded many critics of Far Eastern ink drawings with particular expressiveness. Recurring subjects are natural and industrial landscapes. During the painter's vacations, he painted landscapes in many European countries, with the Danish island of Bornholm being a preferred travel destination. Hirn painted with great passion every day as long as his Parkinson's disease allowed it. He was supported by his second wife, the ceramicist Gabriele (Gabi) Hirn, who was often involved in the selection of motifs. The high phase of his work falls during this period. In 1968, Hirn received the Rembrandt Prize at the "Open Art Prize 86" in Nuremberg and in 1978 a gold medal at the "Italia 2000" exhibition in Naples.
