Armin Jäger (born September 19, 1962 in Ludwigsburg ) is a former German soccer goalkeeper .

Career

Jäger began playing football at TSV Asperg and in 1981 switched to the amateurs of VfB Stuttgart . Between 1983 and 1989 he played a total of 20 Bundesliga games for the professional team of VfB and for the Stuttgarter Kickers . He also made 35 second division appearances for the Kickers between 1986 and 1988 . Although he was only a substitute goalkeeper at VfB, he played a key role in winning the German championship in 1984 : In the six games in which he represented regular goalkeeper Helmut Roleder , he was defeated only four times by the opposing strikers and VfB did not lose any of these games.

In addition, Jäger was in the DFB Cup finals in 1986 (with VfB) and 1987 (with the Kickers) , but both times lost with his teams.

The last major success of his career was the second division championship in 1988 and the associated promotion to the first division.

Today Armin Jäger runs an inn in Marbach am Neckar together with his wife Regina .
