Helmut Roleder (born October 9, 1953 in Freital ) is a former German soccer goalkeeper . He played for VfB Stuttgart for 17 years and became German champion with him in 1984.

Career

societies

Helmut Roleder started playing soccer at SV Ebersbach and in 1969 moved to the youth department of VfB Stuttgart, which he was to be a member of until the end of his career. Out of adolescence, he moved up to the first team for the 1972/73 season . In his first season in the senior division, he completed five point games in the Bundesliga . He made his debut on September 30, 1972 (4th match day) in the 1: 3 defeat in the away game against Hannover 96 . In the following two seasons he played nine point games and at the end of the 1974/75 season he was relegated to the 2nd Bundesliga South as 16th in the championship with the Stuttgart team . Due to an innovation, VfB Stuttgart was the first club to be relegated due to this placement - previously it was always the 17th and 18th in the championship. After two seasons in the second division, in which he played 67 of 76 possible point games, he returned to the top German division as champion of the 2nd Bundesliga South in 1977 with VfB Stuttgart. He remained loyal to VfB Stuttgart, which he was a member of until the end of the 1986/87 season ; he played his last of 280 Bundesliga games on April 22, 1986 (33rd match day) in a 2-1 defeat in the away game against Bayer 04 Leverkusen . On April 9, 1983 (27th matchday) he was expelled in the 2-2 draw in the away game against VfL Bochum five minutes before the end of the game as the first goalkeeper due to an " emergency brake " of the field.

National team

Even as a player of SV Ebersbach he came in on 29 April 1969 student national team to its first international match . At the age of 17 he made his debut in the DFB youth team , which won 1-0 against Denmark's selection on November 29, 1970 in Aabenraa . Eleven more appearances followed, one of which he won 3-2 in games for the Atlantic Cup in Las Palmas on January 17, 1971 in Las Palmas , as well as five of them as No. 1 in goal during the 13-22 May 1972 UEFA youth tournament in Spain, which he finished second with the team after the 2-0 defeat in the final against the selection of England.

For the B national team , he played four internationals in 1980 and 1981, where he made his debut on October 7, 1980 in Kerkrade in a 2-1 win against the Dutch selection with a substitute for Jupp Koitka .

He played his only A international match on March 28, 1984 in Hanover in a 2-1 victory over the USSR . The VfB goalkeeper came on for regular goalkeeper Toni Schumacher at half time. He was part of the squad for the European Championship in France from June 12 to 27, 1984 , but does not enter a tournament game.

successes

Others

After his football career, Helmut Roleder worked as a sports journalist and was part of the management team of a publishing house. Today he advises companies and is a communication and business trainer and speaker for motivational lectures. Roleder is committed to the social project “ We Help Africa ” as a project ambassador.

Candidate as club president

On May 22, 2011, Helmut Roleder announced that he wanted to run for the office of President of VfB Stuttgart . Since the supervisory board of the VfB around its chairman Dieter Hundt had proposed Gerd E. Mäuser as the only candidate for the office of president, a majority of at least 75 percent of the votes of the members present at the general meeting had to bring about an amendment to the statutes, so that Roleder against Mäuser could have started. After the amendments to the articles of association did not receive the necessary majority at the general assembly on July 17, 2011, the candidate Mäuser was elected President of the VfB.
