Armin Reumann

Armin Reumann (born May 14, 1889 in Sonneberg ; † October 29, 1952 there ) was a German painter .

Live and act

The painter Armin Reumann was born in Sonneberg in 1889. After elementary school he attended industrial school (later the technical college for applied arts ), where Professor Möller recognized and promoted his artistic talent. Professor Möller arranged for Armin Reumann to receive a scholarship from Duke Georg II of Saxony-Meiningen , which enabled him to study at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Munich . In the class of the painter Hugo Freiherr von Habermann , Armin Reumann came under the artistic influence of important impressionists such as Max Liebermann and Lovis Corinth . During the First World War he served on the western front and worked there as a military draftsman and also as a painter. In 1918 he returned to Munich. In the turmoil of the November Revolution and afterwards he received no commissions as an artist and found no other work, so that he left Munich in 1920 out of an emergency and returned to his hometown of Sonneberg.

In Sonneberg he devoted himself in particular to landscape and figure painting as well as still life . Due to the new artistic currents in the 1920s and the retreat to the Thuringian province, Reumann lost more and more connection to newer aesthetic developments and forms with his impressionist painting and fell into artistic sideline during the time of National Socialism . In 1944 he was drafted as a soldier at the age of 55. After the Second World War he returned to Sonneberg and worked there as a freelance artist until his death in 1952.
