Arndt Grille

Arndt Grille (born January 18, 1920 ) is a former German soccer player. In 1951/52 he was active for the BSG unit Pankow in the upper league , the highest soccer division of the GDR sports committee .

Athletic career

Grille played his first league game on December 16, 1951 for the East Berlin company sports community (BSG) Einheit Pankow in the city derby of the 18th matchday, Einheit Pankow - BSG Motor Oberschöneweide (0-0). He was used for 60 minutes on the left attacking side. In this position he immediately fought for a regular place, so that by the end of the season he had a total of 19 league appearances and with five goals was together with two other players the most successful goalscorer of the Pankower.

The soccer team of the BSG unit was only formed at the beginning of the 1951/52 season to meet the demands of the GDR leadership to have two East Berlin teams play in the league after VfB Pankow was relegated in the preseason and the SG Lichtenberg 47 only the SG Union Oberschöneweide from East Berlin would have been represented in the Oberliga. The unity squad was made up of a few VfB players and mostly new players. This randomly compiled team had no chance in the major league and landed at the end of the season, like VfB Pankow, on the last place in the table and had to relegate.

Contrary to the results in the major league, the course in the GDR soccer cup competition was more successful for Unity Pankow. The Berliners advanced to the semi-finals, but were defeated by Lok Stendal 0-1. Since the Stendaler were then disqualified because of the unauthorized use of a player, the Pankower got into the final. There they met the vice-champion SG Volkspolizei Dresden . Arndt Grille played the final in his usual left wing position, but was clearly inferior with his team, who lost the game 3-0.

In the seasons 1952/53 and 1953/54 Grille kicked with unit Pankow in the second-rate GDR league . In these two years he made 44 appearances and 14 goals in the 50 point games played. Since the BSG unit then relegated to the third-class East Berlin district league, Grille's track in the lower-class football area was lost.
