Modriach parish church
The Modriach Parish Church is the Roman Catholic parish church in Modriach in the market town of Edelschrott in Styria . The parish church of St. Veit belongs to the deanery Voitsberg in the diocese of Graz-Seckau . Its history goes back to the middle of the 13th century.
history
The church was first mentioned in 1245 and was a branch of the parish church of Pack until 1786 . In 1716 the church was rebuilt and after a fire in 1832 the church roof was renewed. The interior was restored in 1964.
description
The church is surrounded by a stone churchyard wall. The compact four-storey church tower with a pointed helmet is slightly positioned in the western part of the church building. The lower three floors are kept in the Gothic style.
The church interior has four bays and has a semicircle . It is spanned by a cross vault resting on pillars with belt arches, which have a fine stucco decoration. The broadly tiered wall pillars have strong cornice capitals . The three-axis gallery is located in the western end of the nave and rests on a cross vault with rectangular pillars . The parapet of the gallery is swinging forward in the middle part.
The high altar dates from around 1730/40 and has an altar sheet drawn by Johann Veit Hauck , which shows the martyrdom of St. Veit . The Leonhard Altar was erected in 1711 and the cross altar with crucifix and Mater Dolorosa was erected in the second half of the 18th century. The tabernacle dates from around 1800. The small organ dates from 1704, has rococo cheeks and was moved here from the parish church in Pack in the third quarter of the 18th century . In the church there are several baroque statues, of which those of St. Florian are from the end of the 17th century and the rest from the rest of the 18th century.
