Arno Münster (born October 25, 1956 in Hamburg ) is a German SPD politician and was a member of the Hamburg Parliament from 2008 to 2020 .

Life and work

Arno Münster graduated from the Bleickenallee elementary school in Hamburg-Ottensen between 1962 and 1971 . From 1976 he worked as a dock worker at the Hamburg port and logistics (HHLA) and from 1990 as a load master at the Burchardkai container terminal . He has been employed as a technical employee at HHLA since 1999. From 2004 he took over the management of the occupational health and safety management department.

Arno Münster was a union member before he started working for HHLA. He joined the IG Bau-Steine-Erden trade union in 1972 and later joined the ÖTV (today ver.di ). From 1994 to 1999 he was an exempt member of the works council and from 2006 to 2014 he was chairman of the works council at HHLA.

Arno Münster is married and has one child.

In 1981 Arno Münster joined the SPD and had been a member of the Hamburg-Altona district assembly since 1990 before being elected to the citizenry . Since 2004 he has been chairing the building committee there. In addition to the main committee, he was a member of the committees for planning, redevelopment (Altona and Ottensen) and transport as well as the committee for district administration reform. In February 2008, he was in the state election move into the Hamburg Parliament over the national list of the SPD as a deputy. In 2011 and 2015 Münster was directly elected to the citizenship in constituency 3 . He is a member of the Senate's committee for parliamentary control in the field of the protection of the constitution, of the commission for the implementation of the law on the restriction of the secrecy of letters, mail and telecommunications, of the monitoring body for housing surveillance, of the submission committee and of the committee for economy, innovation and the media. From 2011 onwards, Arno Münster was the internal political spokesman for the SPD parliamentary group. The areas of responsibility included the police, fire brigade, rescue services, constitutional protection and flood protection. In mid-September 2017, Münster resigned from this office due to internal party disagreements. However, he will continue to work as a simple member of the special committee for the G20 summit. He no longer belongs to the citizenship elected in 2020.

Arno Münster has had his political home with the SPD Altona-Altstadt for over 25 years.
