Arnold Amet

Arnold Karibone Amet (born October 30, 1952 ) is a Papua New Guinean lawyer and politician .

Arnold Amet was governor of Madang Province from November 2007 to December 2010 . He resigned to serve as Minister of Justice and Attorney General in the government of Prime Minister Michael Somare . He held this position until the government was replaced in August 2011 by a parliamentary declaration on the vacancy of the prime minister's office, whereupon he went into the opposition.

In the parliamentary elections of 2007 he was elected as a member for the province of Madang in the national parliament of Papua New Guinea . Arnold was Chief Justice of Papua New Guinea until 2003, Chairman of the International Election Observation Authority of the Commonwealth of Nations , Commonwealth Observer Group for the 2006 elections in the Solomon Islands, and a member of the International Observer Group to Assess the Political and Human Rights Situation in Fiji after the military coup of 2006.
