Arnold Erlenbach

Arnold Erlenbach (born March 23, 1868 in Nuremberg , † August 26, 1938 in Munich ) was a German chemist and industry manager .

Life

Erlenbach was born in Nuremberg in 1868. From 1896 he was employed as a dye chemist for the stock corporation for aniline factories in Berlin . In 1901 he received an order from the Wolfen paint factory to begin research into new fur dyes, among other things. In addition, Erlenbach should research to improve chlorine production and the synthesis of organochlorine compounds. During the First World War, Erlenbach was responsible for expanding the Wolfen paint factory. This included the construction of new plants, such as those for the production of nitric acid and ammonia . In addition, new products were manufactured in the company. In addition to explosives and fertilizers , this expansion also included oleum , activated carbon for gas masks and irritant cartridges. These innovations contributed to the fact that Erlenbach is regarded as a formative personality in the expansion of the Agfa paint factory in Wolfen. In 1919 he took over the management of all Agfa paint companies. In 1921 he also became a member of the Agfa board of directors and works manager in Wolfen. He was appointed to the board of directors of IG Farbindustrie AG in 1926. Thanks to his commitment, the infrastructure of the Wolfen community could be improved. He promoted the construction of sports facilities such as a swimming pool and tennis facility. He also supported the expansion of the company's own social facilities. This funding program included the hospital, the theater and the allotment gardens. The company is now part of the Bitterfeld-Wolfen Chemical Park .
