Arnold Mettnitzer (born November 19, 1952 in Gmünd in Carinthia ) is an Austrian theologian , pastor and psychotherapist .

Life

Mettnitzer grew up as the oldest of six children on a Carinthian mountain farm.

He studied in Vienna and Rome theology . He completed his studies in Rome with a dissertation on the Viennese theologian Ernst Commer summa cum laude . In 1978 he was ordained a priest in Rome and in 1979 was called to pastoral care in the diocese of Gurk-Klagenfurt . From 1986 to 1992 or 1993 he was rector of the St. Georgen am Längsee educational center and diocesan youth pastor in Carinthia. Then he became pastor of the parish Klein St. Paul until 2001 . In 2003 he finished his church service. Mettnitzer names the subject of "sexuality", the relationship with a woman, as the main reason for his resignation from the priesthood.

In 1991 he began a training analysis with Erwin Ringel and training as a psychotherapist ( individual psychology ) in Vienna. Since 1996 Mettnitzer has been working as a psychotherapist in private practice in Vienna- Josefstadt . In addition to his therapeutic work, he also works as a seminar leader and lecturer in adult education. Mettnitzer is a freelancer for Austrian broadcasting and deputy chairman of the ORF public council .

  • 2013 - Awarded the professional title “ Professor ” by the Federal Ministry for Education, Art and Culture.
