history
Due to the iron production in the nearby Hüttenberg, the area of today's municipality was already settled in the time of the Celts . In 831 the lower Görtschitztal came into the possession of the Archdiocese of Salzburg . The first documentary mention comes from the time between 1060 and 1088. In 1507 the manor and parish of St. Paul under Hornburg were transferred to the St. Paul monastery in Lavanttal .
In 1850, at the same time as the community was established, the name was changed to Klein Sankt Paul. In 1930, the community was given the right to use the name “ market community ”. In 1973 the community area was expanded to include the dissolved local community of Wieting and the cadastral community of Hinterberg (previously part of Lölling).
Attractions
- The Hornburg was a twin castle (Ober- and Niederhornburg). The ruins of the main castle, built in the 12th century, lie on the summit of the Hornberg on the western slope of the Saualpe between Eberstein and Klein Sankt Paul. Mentioned in a document in 1140, the expansion took place in 1414. Originally it was owned by the Counts of Görz , and then by the Hornburger ministers. In the 15th century it was an imperial fiefdom, in 1581 it was sold to Sigmund Welzer von Eberstein; From 1630 to 1939 it was owned by the Christalnigg family. The Obere Hornburg was a rectangular permanent house from the first half of the 12th century. To the east of the castle are the ruins of the Gothic chapel from the 14th century. From the lower Hornburg there are only small remains of a former rectangular solid house from the 12th century, in the east parts of the former Bering and a residential building from the 13th / 14th. Century. The Hornburg has been in decline since the 17th century.

coat of arms
The front half of the split coat of arms is based on the coat of arms of the Lords of Hornburg, who resided in the Hornburg as sovereign vassals; it shows the rod of a deer's antler. The industrial present is expressed in the back half by a strongly stylized symbol of local cement production: the interior of a black rotary kiln driven by two small gears is filled with a red vortex of flame, the “Z” indicates the processing of cement.
The official blazon of the coat of arms reads: “A split shield. In front in red a golden right pole of a tens, behind in gold a black rotary kiln; in it, in gold, a red fiery flame vortex running clockwise, which is covered with a gold Z. "
The coat of arms and flag were awarded to the municipality on August 5, 1969 (new award in 1974). The flag is yellow-red with an incorporated coat of arms.
