Arnold von Bardewik (* in Lübeck ; † September 21, 1350 ibid) was a German businessman and councilor of the Hanseatic city of Lübeck.

Life

Arnold von Bardewik was the son of Lübeck's tailor , councilor and mayor Albert von Bardewik from his first marriage to Anna Steneke, the daughter of Lübeck's mayor Hinrich Steneke . When his father died in 1310, he was not yet of age. In 1310 he acquired half of the village of Redentin with councilor Arnold Wlome . In 1327 he was elected to the Lübeck council. As a businessman, he is mentioned as a partner in four trading companies and was more intensively involved in the Lübeck property market. From 1342 onwards, his property case can be traced from the documents that have been handed down. His estate turned out to be over-indebted to his contemporaries.

He lived in his father's house at Königstrasse 77 in Lübeck's old town until 1347 and died of the plague that raged in Lübeck in 1350. His estate was heavily indebted. Among several children was his daughter Elisabeth / Telse († after 1370), who married the Lübeck mayor Johann Wittenborg in 1321 , who was executed in Lübeck in 1363.

seal

His traditional seal shows a helmet ornament and is out of the ordinary in Lübeck at this time and in this design. His older business partner Arnold Wlome also had a coat of arms that only contained a crest.
