The Arnoweg is a long and circular hiking trail and circles the state of Salzburg. The start and finish point is the Hohensalzburg Fortress in Salzburg , Austria . In its longest possible variant, it is 1,200 kilometers long.

history

The Arnoweg was created on the occasion of the 1200th anniversary of the Archdiocese of Salzburg . It is dedicated to Archbishop Arno von Salzburg († 821), who was appointed Archbishop by the Pope in 798 on the instructions of Charlemagne .

course

The Arnoweg is divided into 8 sections: the Kalkberge West from Salzburg to Saalfelden, the Pinzgauer Grasberge from Saalfelden to Krimml, the Keesberge from Krimml to Bad Gastein, the Gras and Nockberge from Bad Gastein to Tamsweg, the Niederen Tauern from Tamsweg to Radstadt, the Kalkberge Ost from Radstadt to Abtenau, the foothills of the Alps from Abtenau to Irrsdorf and the Alpine foothills from Irrsdorf back to the starting point in Salzburg.
