Aron Densușianu

Aron Densuşianu (* 19th November 1837 in Densuş , Hunedoara county , † 2. September 1900 in Iasi ) was a Romanian writer, linguist and Rumänist .

Life

Densușianu came from the Transylvanian noble family Pop von Hațeg. He studied law in Sibiu (graduated in 1864) and became a lawyer in Făgăraş ( Fogarasch ) and Braşov ( Kronstadt ). In 1880 he went to Iași and was professor of Latin there from 1882. From 1883 he was professor of literature at the University of Iași and in 1877 a corresponding member of the Romanian Academy .

In Cluj-Napoca ( Klausenburg ) a street is named after him, in Hațeg ( Hötzing ) there is a school.

Aron Densușianu was the brother of the historian Nicolae Densusianu (1846-1911), as well as the father of Ovid Densusianu and the medicine professor Elena Densușianu-Pușcariu (1875-1966).
