The University "Alexandru Ioan Cuza" Iași ( Romanian Universitatea "Alexandru Ioan Cuza" Iași ) is the oldest university in Romania. It is located in the Romanian city of Iași and was named after its founder, the first Romanian prince Alexandru Ioan Cuza .
history
The university opened on October 26, 1860. Initially there were only three faculties : law, philosophy and theology. The theological faculty was closed between 1864 and 1933.
According to an Education Act of December 5, 1864, the university was restructured: there was the Faculty of Philosophy and Literature, the Faculty of Natural Sciences, from which the Polytechnic School Iași developed in 1937 , the Faculty of Law and the Faculty of Medicine, which has actually been since Operated in 1879, but was spun off as an independent institute in 1948.
