Arrojadoa is a genus of plants from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The botanical name of the genus honors the plant collector Miguel Arrojado Ribeiro Lisboa (1872–1932).

description

The bushy, upright, semi-upright or creeping species of the genus Arrojadoa branch out little from the base. The green, slender cylindrical shoots are sometimes articulated and reach a height of up to 2 meters with a diameter of 0.5 to 5 centimeters. The areoles sit close together on the 7 to 17  ribs . The small thorns are often bristly. At the end of each growing season, a terminal cephalium is formed, which is grown through in the next growing season and forms ring-shaped tufts of white wool and reddish bristles.

The tubular flowers are red, pink, lavender, purple or white and open during the day. They are up to 4.5 centimeters long and often arise in clusters from the cephalium at the tip of the shoot. The flower cup and the flower tube are bare. The perianth hardly opens. The stamens and the stylus do not protrude.

The spherical to pear-shaped, smooth, bare fruits are purple, pink or red. They are berry-like, juicy and have a white pulp. They reach a diameter of up to 2 centimeters. The egg to pear-shaped seeds are black and warty. They are up to 1.5 millimeters long.

The first description of the genus was made in 1920 by Nathaniel Lord Britton and Joseph Nelson Rose . The type species is Cereus rhodanthus Gürke . The genus includes the following species:

Synonyms of the genus are Pierrebraunia Esteves (1997) and Arrojadoopsis Guiggi (2007).
