Pierrebraunia is a genus of plants from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The botanical name of the genus honors the German agronomist and cactus specialist Pierre Josef Braun (* 1959).
description
The species of the genus Pierrebraunia grow upright and are branched individually or at the bottom. Their spherical to columnar shoots are green to yellow-green or gray-green. They are not or partially covered with grayish flakes of wax. The 4 to 17 ribs are more or less wide. The needle-like thorns are spread out and, in Pierrebraunia brauniorum, on blooming , woolly areoles, broom-comb-shaped.
The tubular, pink to whitish pink flowers are 3 to 4 inches long. They appear laterally near the shoot tip and open during the day. Your pericarpel and tube are bare. The bracts are erect or somewhat spread out. The stylus and the stamens do not protrude from the tube. Pollination is done by birds.
The smooth, bare, spherical to egg-shaped, juicy and berry-shaped fruits are pink or dark red. They reach a diameter of 1 to 3 centimeters, do not open and have a persistent flower remnant. The fruits contain black, pear-shaped seeds up to 1.5 millimeters long and 0.6 millimeters wide.

The systematic position of the genus has not been fully clarified. The International Cactus Systematics Group of the International Organization for Succulent Research considers the species to belong to the genus Arrojadoa .
The genus Pierrebraunia includes the following species:
- Pierrebraunia bahiensis (PJBraun & Esteves) Esteves
