Arrojadoa rhodantha is a species of plant in the genus Arrojadoa in the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet rhodantha is derived from the Greek words rhodos for 'rose red' and anthos for 'blossom' and refers to the flower color of the species.

Arrojadoa rhodantha grows shrubby, upright to straddling or climbing ajar and reaches heights of growth of up to 2 meters. The roots are fibrous. The dark green, cylindrical shoots are segmented and have a diameter of 2 to 5 centimeters. The 10 to 12  ribs are very flat, the areoles are 10 to 12 millimeters apart. Yellowish white to brown thorns arise from the areoles . The 5 to 6 strong central spines are up to 3 centimeters long, the 20 radial spines up to 1.2 centimeters long. The cephalium consists of brown wool and reddish brown bristles.

The purple to pink to purple-red flowers are up to 3.5 centimeters long and have a diameter of 1.2 centimeters. The spherical fruits are red and reach a diameter of 2 centimeters.

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Arrojadoa rhodantha is common in the Brazilian states of Bahia , Minas Gerais, and Piauí .

The first description as Cereus rhodanthus by Robert Louis August Maximilian Gürke was published in 1908. Nathaniel Lord Britton and Joseph Nelson Rose put the species in the genus Arrojadoa in 1920 .

Another nomenclature synonym is Cephalocereus rhodanthus (Gürke) Werderm. (1933). Other synonyms include Arrojadoa rhodantha subsp. aureispina (Buining & Brederoo) PJ Braun & Esteves (1995) , Arrojadoa rhodantha subsp. canudosensis (Buining & Brederoo) PJBraun (1988) and Arrojadoa rhodantha subsp. reflexa P.J. Braun (1984).

In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is listed as " Least Concern (LC) ". H. listed as not endangered.
