The Arroyo Maldonado is a river located in the area of the Maldonado department in southern Uruguay .
The left tributary of the Río de la Plata has its source in the Sierra de los Caracoles . From there it first flows east past the city of San Carlos . To the south of this city it unites with its most important tributary, the Arroyo San Carlos , which joins it on the left. Finally, it passes the cities of Maldonado and Punta del Este to the west of its course and flows into the Río de la Plata between El Placer and La Barra .
