Günter Schweiger (born May 23, 1941 in Krummau an der Moldau ) is an Austrian economist . Since 1974 he has been a full professor for advertising science and market research at the Vienna University of Economics and Business .

education

Günter Schweiger graduated from the Commercial Academy in Wels in 1960, studied commercial science at what was then the University of World Trade and was awarded a business degree in 1963. In 1966 he received his doctorate in commercial science (Dr. rer. Comm.).

Academic career

After working as an assistant at the Institute for International Marketing at the Johannes Kepler University Linz for eight years , he became a lecturer and full professor for advertising science and market research at the Vienna University of Economics and Business in 1974 . In 1983 he completed a research semester in the USA at California State University . In 2002 he was appointed visiting professor for international marketing at the Asian University for Science and Technology (AUST) in Chon Buri, Thailand. In 2004 he worked as a visiting professor at the Hanoi University of Technology (HUT) in Hanoi, Vietnam. Finally, a further stay abroad followed in 2007 as a visiting professor at the University of Montenegro in Podgorica, Montenegro.

  • Head of the Institute for Advertising Science and Market Research, Vienna University of Economics and Business (since 1975)
  • Head of the university course for advertising and sales, the leading Austrian training program in marketing (since 1974)
  • Program director of the study program for the promotion of young managers in Central and Eastern Europe (JOSZEF program) at the Vienna University of Economics and Business (since it was founded in 1994 to 2007)
  • President of the Austrian Society for Advertising Science (WWG) (since 1985)
  • Editor of the magazine " Transfer - Werbeforschung & Praxis " of the Austrian Society for Advertising Science (WWG) and the German Society for Advertising Science (DWG)
  • Co-editor of the magazine "Der Markt"
  • Editor of the series “Die Marke”, WWG and “Werbe- und Markenforschung”, Gabler Verlag (DUV), Germany
  • Cooperation officer of the University of Economics for the exchange program with Getulio Vargas, São Paulo
