Arta Dade (born March 15, 1953 in Tirana ) is an Albanian politician of the Socialist Party (PS). Between 2001 and 2002 she was the only woman to date in the office of Foreign Minister of Albania.

biography

After attending school, she studied English at the Faculty of Foreign Languages ​​at the University of Tirana from 1972 to 1975 . After completing her studies, she was a teacher at the Asim Vokshi Foreign Language Middle School from 1975 to 1985 , before she worked as a lecturer at the Department of English at the University of Tirana until 1997 .

In 1991 she became a member of the Socialist Party of Albania, the successor to the previously communist Labor Party ( Partia e Punës e Shqipërisë ), and at the same time a member of the party executive. In 1993 she also became a member of the women's forum of today's European Left .

In 1996 she ran successfully as a representative of the PS for the Albanian Parliament and was a member of it during the 15th legislative period from 1997 to 2001. She was re-elected in the 2001 and 2005 parliamentary elections and was a member of parliament until 2009. In July 1997 she was appointed minister for culture, youth and sport in his cabinet by Prime Minister Fatos Nano and was a member of this until April 1998.

Afterwards she was vice-chairman of the parliamentary committee for foreign affairs and international relations, member of the expert commission for the stability pact, member of the Albanian- French parliamentary society and from January 1999 to June 2001 substitute delegate of the parliamentary assembly of the Council of Europe . In addition, she has held the office of secretary for international relations on the board of the PS since 1998 and has been re-elected several times as such.

In September 2001 she was appointed as successor to Paskal Milo by Prime Minister Ilir Meta as Albania's first and so far only foreign minister. She held this position until July 2002. Subsequently, Ilir Meta took over the office of Foreign Minister himself under the new Prime Minister Fatos Nano.

She was also the author of numerous political and social science articles.
