Artashes Lipariti Schahinjan ( Armenian Արտաշես Լիպարիտի Շահինյան , Russian Арташес Липаритович Шагинян * December 19, 1906 ^{. Jul} / 1. January  1907 ^greg. In Alexandropol ; † 14. May 1978 in Yerevan ) was an Armenian - Soviet mathematician and university professor .

Life

Shahinjan studied first at the Yerevan Industrial University with a degree in 1926 and then mathematics at the University of Yerevan (JGU) with a degree in 1929. He then taught at JGU until his death. 1938–1944 he headed the chair for geometry . In 1939, after completing his apprenticeship at VI Smirnow , he received his doctorate as a candidate in physical-mathematical sciences and was appointed professor. 1939–1942 he was dean of the physics and mathematics faculty at JGU. In 1944 he received his doctorate in physical and mathematical sciences . From 1944 he headed the chair for function theory and analysis .

In addition to his teaching activities, Shahinyan was the chief secretary of the Department of Mathematics and Mechanics of the Academy of Sciences of the Armenian SSR (AN-ArmSSR) from 1945 to 1955 . In 1947 he became a member of the academy. 1950–1963 he was academy secretary of the department for mathematics and mechanics and member of the executive committee of the academy. 1955-1959 he was director of the Institute for Mathematics and Mechanics of the AN ArmSSR.

In 1965, Shahinjan founded the Physics and Mathematics School at JGU that now bears his name.

Shahinyan was a member of the Supreme Soviet of the Armenian SSR in the 7th and 8th session.
