Submental artery
The lower chin artery (Latin submental artery ) is a branch of the arteria facialis that runs along the underside of the lower jaw .
course
The submental artery arises as the largest cervical branch of the facial artery , after which it has left the mandibular salivary gland ( submandibular gland ). It runs forward on the mylohyoid muscle just below the mandibular body and is covered by the digastric muscle .
Branches
The lower jaw artery supplies by small branches the surrounding muscles and anastomoses with the artery sublingual and with the Ramus mylohyoideus the inferior alveolar artery .
Near the symphysis of the lower jaw , it swings upwards over the edge of the lower jaw and divides into two terminal branches:
- Ramus superficialis : The superficial branch runs between the skin of the face and the muscle depressor labii inferioris and anastomoses with the arteria labialis inferior .
- Ramus profundus : The deep branch runs between the depressor labii inferioris muscle and the lower jaw bone. It supplies the lower lip and anastomoses with the arteria labialis inferior and with the arteria mentalis .
