The Arthaberplatz on Laxenburger Strasse

Arthaberplatz is enclosed in the north by Davidgasse , in the east by Laxenburger Strasse , in the south by Schröttergasse and in the west by Siccardsburggasse. The green area of the Arthaberpark is located on his area. The square was named in 1890 after the industrialist and art patron Rudolf von Arthaber . At Arthaberplatz there are still some Wilhelminian-style residential buildings from around 1900 and a former brick industrial building, which is now used by a wholesale store chain and converted and adapted for its purposes. Otherwise there are residential buildings from the period after 1945.

On Arthaberplatz on the side of Laxenburger Straße, directly on Laxenburger Straße and in Inzersdorfer Straße to the south of the square, there are stops for tram lines O and 67, bus line 7A and night bus line N66 of Wiener Linien .

Remarkable buildings on Arthaberplatz

Arthaberpark

The approximately 10,000 m² park was laid out in 1904 under Mayor Karl Lueger . In 1905 the Arthaber family had a monumental fountain with a clock and a relief painting by Rudolf von Arthaber built there, which was unveiled in 1906. The design of the fountain comes from the architect Karl Theodor Bach , the relief from Rudolf Schröer. The dedication plaque honors Arthaber as a bourgeois trader and shawl manufacturer, promoter of trade, art, viticulture and gardening . After the Second World War, the fountain was changed, but in 1989 it was restored to its original condition.

Since 1930 (Mayor: Karl Seitz ) there has been a children's outdoor pool in the park, which was converted into the youth center “Jugendtreff Arthaberbad” in 2005/2006 . The park also has a children's playground, a place to play football and a demarcated dog zone .

No. 12–15: Brunngraberhof

On the northern side of the square, between Davidgasse, Siccardsburggasse, Jagdgasse and Rotenhofgasse, an urban residential complex was built from 1957 to 1959 according to plans by the architects Eduard Berger, Leopold Tinhof and Bruno Tinhofer. It was named after the working-class writer Rudolf Brunngraber .

No. 18: Adult Education Center Favoriten

The Volkshochschule Favoriten was founded in 1922 in the premises of the Realschule Jagdgasse 40 and opened by Federal President Michael Hainisch . After the Second World War, the Volkshochschule Favoriten association was founded in 1946; Karl Foltinek (1922–2003), later head of the Cultural Office of the City of Vienna, became the first educational director of the VHS, which was temporarily housed in the school building at 27 Herzgasse. On the edge of the Arthaberpark on the side of Siccardsburggasse there was an air raid shelter on which the foundation stone for the construction of the adult education center was laid on September 19, 1959. The architects who had previously planned the Brunngraberhof also designed the building for the adult education center. It started operating in September 1961 and was officially opened on February 23, 1962. It has a lecture hall with a capacity of 200 people, which is also used for theater or film screenings. There are occasional exhibitions in the entrance halls. A mosaic group of people from 1961 was made by Wilhelm Hochmeister. Next to it in the park there is an artificial stone sculpture by Gottfried Buchberger from the same year.
