Arthur Gold

Sir Arthur Abraham Gold (born January 10, 1917 ; died May 25, 2002 in London ) was a British sports official.

Gold was an active high jumper and competed in two international matches for the United Kingdom in 1937. His best performance was 1.90 m. After his own career he worked as a trainer, among other things he looked after Dorothy Tyler . Full-time in the auto industry, he was honorary secretary of the British Amateur Athletic Board from 1965 to 1977 . From 1976 to 1987 Gold was President of the European Athletics Association EAA , with a focus on the fight against doping and the commercialization of sport. At the same time he was from 1979 to 1990 chairman of the English Commonwealth Games Council . From 1988 to 1992 Gold was Chairman of the British Olympic Association , then Vice-President.

Gold was awarded the CBE in 1974 for his honorary function and was knighted in 1984.
