Oberwallenstadt is a district of the Upper Franconian district town of Lichtenfels in the Lichtenfels district .

geography

Oberwallenstadt is located west of the Main , about two kilometers northeast of the Lichtenfels town center. Together with the Unterwallenstadt district , it borders directly on the city center. The Franconian Marienweg runs through the village .

history

Oberwallenstadt was first mentioned in 1143 as "Waldenstadt". Until 1802 the place belonged to the bishopric of Bamberg , until it was annexed by the Electoral Palatinate of Bavaria . With the community edict, the village , which had 160 inhabitants at the time, formed the community of Oberwallenstadt in the Lichtenfels district court from 1818 together with the neighboring Unterwallenstadt and Krappenroth .

In 1875 Oberwallenstadt had 281 residents in 106 buildings and was assigned to the Catholic church and school in Lichtenfels. In 1900 the rural community of Oberwallenstadt covered an area of ​​409.24 hectares, 564 inhabitants, 541 of whom were Catholic, and 105 residential buildings. 306 people lived in 56 residential buildings in Oberwallenstadt. The village was assigned to the parish of the Catholic and Protestant Church in Lichtenfels. 1950 the place had 437 inhabitants and 62 residential buildings.

On April 1, 1959, Oberwallenstadt was incorporated into the city of Lichtenfels. In 1970 359 people lived in the village.

Attractions

In 1984 the Catholic Chapel of St. Elisabeth was consecrated. The diocesan architect Manfred Erhardt had planned the replacement building with a somewhat unusual roof and tower construction for a chapel from 1938.

In the Bavarian list of monuments two monuments are listed for Oberwallenstadt .
