Unterwallenstadt is a district of the Upper Franconian district town of Lichtenfels .

geography

The place is south of the Main , about two kilometers north to northeast of the Lichtenfels city center. Together with the Oberwallenstadt district , it borders directly on the city center.

history

Unterwallenstadt was first mentioned in 1143 as Waldenstadt . Until 1802 the place belonged to the bishopric of Bamberg , until it was annexed by the Electoral Palatinate of Bavaria . With the community edict, the town , which had 168 inhabitants at the time, formed the community of Oberwallenstadt in the Lichtenfels district court from 1818 together with the neighboring Oberwallenstadt and Krappenroth .

In 1950 Unterwallenstadt had 504 inhabitants. On April 1, 1959, the municipality of Oberwallenstadt was incorporated into the city of Lichtenfels. In 1970, 1128 people lived in the church village.
