Gnellenroth is a district of the Upper Franconian town of Lichtenfels in the Lichtenfels district .

geography

The hamlet is located about five kilometers northwest of Lichtenfels on a slope at the foot of the Banzer Berg. The federal highway 289 and the federal highway 73 pass to the east.

history

Gnellenroth was first mentioned in the 9th century. Six Huben belonged to the Frankish imperial estate in "Knellenrode" . The place name probably goes back to the person Knello. The next mention was in the tax revenue of the Banz monastery in 1525 as "Nellenrode". The place is said to have come into possession of Banz Monastery in 1248.

In 1801 Gnellenroth belonged to the territory of the Bamberg Monastery . The place consisted of a courtyard and was part of the Stiftsland belonging to Banz Monastery. The pastor from Altenbanz was responsible for the church. The feudal and bailiwick rule and the tithe belonged to the monastery.

According to the parish edict of 1818, Gnellenroth was merged with Stetten and Tiefenroth to form one parish. In 1862, the rural community of Stetten was incorporated into the newly created Bavarian district office of Lichtenfels . In 1875 Gnellenroth had 35 residents and 12 buildings. The Catholic Church was in Altenbanz, 3.0 kilometers away, and the Catholic school in Stetten, 1.5 kilometers away. In 1900 the rural community of Stetten had an area of ​​681.93 hectares, 349 inhabitants, of whom 326 were Catholic, and 60 residential buildings. 24 people lived in Gnellenroth in 5 residential buildings. The hamlet was assigned to the church district of the Protestant parish in Herreth , 9.5 kilometers away . In 1925 26 people lived in 5 residential buildings. Gnellenroth was now part of the parish of the Protestant church in Lichtenfels. In 1950 the place had 27 residents and 4 residential buildings. In 1970 Gnellenroth had 20 residents and in 1987 14 residents as well as 5 residential buildings with 6 apartments.

On January 1, 1975, the community of Stetten with the community parts Gnellenroth and Tiefenroth was incorporated into the city of Lichtenfels.
