Schönsreuth is a district of the Upper Franconian town of Lichtenfels in the Lichtenfels district .

The village in the Banzer Stiftsland is about three kilometers northwest of Lichtenfels in a valley basin at the foot of the Banzer Berg. The Stöppachsgraben and the Heinachsbach flow through the place.

history

Schönsreuth was first mentioned in a document in 1195, when the Bamberg Bishop Otto confirmed the Banz Neubrüche monastery in "Scewinsruit". The next mention of Schönsreuth followed in 1225 with "Hermann de Schewensruoth" as a witness for the Würzburg bishop Hermann .

In 1801 Schönsreuth was in the territory of the Bamberg bishopric , which owned the high Zent . The place was part of the Stiftsland belonging to Banz Monastery. The village, community, fiefdom and bailiwick belonged to the monastery. The diocese of Würzburg , represented by the pastor from Altenbanz , was responsible for the church. There was a parish hall, eleven houses and barns built on Sölden and two drip houses .

In 1818 Schönsreuth had 131 inhabitants and was merged with the neighboring village of Kösten to form a rural community. In 1862, the village was incorporated into the newly created Bavarian district office of Lichtenfels . In 1875 Schönsreuth had 183 residents and 66 buildings. The Catholic Church was in Altenbanz, 5.5 kilometers away, and the Catholic school in Stetten, 1.5 kilometers away . In 1900 the rural community of Kösten covered an area of ​​508.96 hectares, 400 inhabitants, 394 of whom were Catholic, and 75 residential buildings. 180 people lived in 31 residential buildings in Schönsreuth. The village was assigned to the parish of the Evangelical Church in Herreth . In 1925, 186 people lived in 32 residential buildings in the village. Since then Schönsreuth has belonged to both the parish of the Catholic and Protestant parishes in Lichtenfels. The school was in Kösten at the time. 1950 the place had 221 inhabitants and 33 residential buildings. In 1970 Schönsreuth had 193 inhabitants and in 1987 207 inhabitants and 57 residential buildings.

On January 1, 1975, Schönsreuth was incorporated into the city of Lichtenfels.

Mill

In the Bavarian list of monuments four monuments are listed for Schönsreuth .

The Schönsreuther Mühle, a former monastery mill, was first mentioned in 1229 as part of the system of fish ponds. In 1704/1705 the Banzer abbot Kilian Düring had the mill built after the permission of the Bamberg prince-bishop Lothar Franz von Schönborn . The two-story hipped roof building with a half-timbered upper floor is marked with the year "1844".
