Arthur Haack

Arthur Haack (born November 9, 1880 in Klobbicke , † March 23, 1915 on Baffin Island in the Canadian territory of Nunavut ) was a German polar filmmaker.

Life

Arthur-Georg Haack was born in Klobbicke in 1880 as the son of the teacher Carl Haack. After training as a photographer in Berlin, he went to America at the age of 25. With his friend Rudolph Franke, who was born in Biesenthal , he hired Captain Joseph-Elzéar Bernier on the “SS Guide” . They made their way to Pond Inlet in Canada to research the Inuit life . This is where Canada's first documentary film "The Land of the Midnight Sun" was made. He froze to death, sitting on a sled with a pipe in his mouth. His friend Franke could be saved.

His grave is in Igarjua Cemetery in Pond Inlet .
