Arthur Menachem Hantke (born March 5, 1874 in Berlin ; died October 9, 1955 in Jerusalem ) was a German-Israeli Zionist association manager.

Life

Arthur Hantke studied law in Berlin and Freiburg im Breisgau and received his doctorate. In 1893 he was one of the founding members of the Jewish Humanitarian Society in Berlin . From 1900 he worked as a lawyer in Berlin and was involved in Zionism . Hantke married Edith Heimann in 1909. From 1901 he was repeatedly a delegate at Zionist congresses , from 1903 to 1928 he was a member of the board of directors of the Keren Kayemeth LeIsrael (Jewish National Fund). In 1905 he became head of the Berlin Central Office of the Zionist Association for Germany (ZVfD) and was a member of the Actions Committee from 1911 to 1920. During the First World War, Hantke was the contact person between the Zionist organizations and the Central Powers . In a conversation with Eugen Hoeflich in 1918, the Zionist Alexander Marmorek named Hantke among the functionaries of Zionism as someone who could also be the chairman of a gymnastics club, Hoeflich did not contradict. From 1920 to 1926 he was a member of the board of directors of the Zionist donation organization Keren Hayesod . Hantke stayed in London in 1919/20 and went to Palestine in 1926 as managing director of Keren Hayesod, became its director in 1933 and held this office until 1948.

The moshav Even Menachem in northern Israel was named after him, as were some streets.
