Arthur Kaufmann (lawyer)

Arthur Kaufmann (born May 10, 1923 in Singen (Hohentwiel) , † April 11, 2001 in Munich ) was a German teacher of criminal law and legal philosopher .

Life

Arthur Kaufmann, son of the politician Edmund Kaufmann had, in 1941 at the University of Frankfurt am Main for Mathematics and Physics enrolled, but had to soon after indent for military service. In 1945 he returned from the war, but was unable to continue studying mathematics and physics because of a physical injury. He then drove from university town to university town. In Freiburg he met Heidegger , but he did not make a great impression on him. Finally he came to Heidelberg and was fascinated by the personality of Gustav Radbruch , the then dean of the law faculty. Arthur Kaufmann began studying law with him in 1945 . It was in 1949 at the University of Heidelberg with a thesis on The wrongdoing in debt doctrine of criminal law doctorate .

After graduating, Arthur Kaufmann was a judge at the Karlsruhe Regional Court . In 1957 he resumed studying philosophy . Then he received his habilitation .

In 1960 he received a professorship at Saarland University , and in 1969 he moved to Munich University . In 1980 he was made a full member of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences .

He was the editor of the complete edition of the works of Gustav Radbruch , published in 20 volumes from 1987 to 2003 , about which he also wrote a biography.
