Arthur Ernst Heinrich Lange (born May 8, 1906 in Dömitz an der Elbe , † October 27, 1972 in Hamburg ) was a German KPD functionary. During the Weimar Republic he was a member of the KPD's intelligence apparatus and survived prison and concentration camp imprisonment during National Socialism .

Life

After completing an apprenticeship, Lange initially worked as a locksmith . He joined the KPD and became a party functionary in Berlin . Here he belonged to the KPD news apparatus under Hans Kippenberger . From 1925 he officially worked in the Archenhold observatory in Berlin-Treptow , where he was responsible for storing materials. He led a group that produced passports and illegal pamphlets and hid them in the basement of the observatory.

After the National Socialist " seizure of power ", Lange was one of the organizers of the last meeting of the KPD leadership on February 7, 1933 in the sports store Ziegenhals near Berlin. He was arrested as a member of the KPD news apparatus on December 12, 1933. The Gestapo , presumably by Hermann Dünow , was also betrayed to the Gestapo .

In 1935, Lange was tried together with Dünow and Karl Schuster before the People's Court . It has long been to two years prison sentenced. In February 1937 he was arrested again and taken to Sachsenhausen concentration camp . After his release in April 1939, he worked as an unskilled worker in Berlin-Friedenau . He was arrested again on April 19, 1944. This time he was taken to Neuengamme concentration camp , where he was liberated in April 1945.

Lange went to Hamburg after 1945, where he became a member of the SPD .
