Arthur Looss
Arthur Looss (born March 16, 1861 in Chemnitz , † May 4, 1923 in Gießen ) was a German zoologist and university professor.
Life
Looss studied natural sciences at the University of Leipzig , especially under Rudolf Leuckart . There he completed his habilitation in zoology in 1889, then worked as a lecturer and was appointed associate professor in 1896. In the same year, however, he moved to the School of Medicine in Cairo , where he taught and researched until the outbreak of war. In 1922 he became a full honorary professor in Giessen. Since his studies (summer 1880) he was a member of the Leipzig University Choir of St. Pauli (now the German Choir ).
His main scientific work is the two-volume monograph on ankylostomas ( hookworms ): “It will remain a top-quality standard work for all time,” says a medical dictionary published in 1932.
