Arthur Piaget
Arthur Piaget (born November 25, 1865 in Yverdon , † April 15, 1952 in Neuchâtel ) was a Swiss Romance scholar , historian and archivist .
life and work
Arthur Piaget was the son of Frédéric Piaget, a director of a watch factory.
Piaget graduated from high school in Lausanne and studied in Neuchâtel and Paris . He received his doctorate in Geneva in 1888 on Martin Le Franc, Prévot de Lausanne (Lausanne 1888, Caen 1993) and then studied history and philology with Gabriel Monod and Gaston Paris (diploma 1890) at the École pratique des hautes études in Paris . From 1895 to 1938 he was the first professor for Romance languages and literatures at the University (until 1909 Academy) Neuchâtel and 1909–1911 its first rector . From 1898 to 1935 he headed the seminar for Reformation history he founded at the theological faculty and worked as canton archivist. From 1902 to 1949 he edited the magazine Musée neuchâtelois (today Revue historique neuchâteloise ).
Arthur Piaget married the teacher Rebecca Suzanne Jackson in 1895. Their son was the psychologist Jean Piaget .
