Jewish cemetery in Kornelimünster

The Kornelimünster Jewish Cemetery is located in the Kornelimünster district of the city of Aachen in the Aachen city region ( North Rhine-Westphalia ). The 584 square meter cemetery is located on Schildchenweg, opposite the communal cemetery and near the St. Stephanus Church .

According to the community chronicle, the Kornelimünster community made the cemetery property available to the Jewish community in 1845. The oldest still identifiable tombstone dates from 1852. The last recorded burial took place in 1935. A funeral is said to have taken place in 1938 afterwards. But no gravestone was set for this deceased.

The cemetery has been a listed building since August 7, 2007.

There are still 29 tombstones ( Mazewot ), two fragments with inscriptions and a memorial stone.

Since there was a Jewish community in Kornelimünster as early as the 17th century , there has certainly also been a burial site. It was located between Schildchenweg and Frankensteg. According to a document from 1780 , the Jew Bernhard Benedict from Stolberg was buried in Kornelimünster.
