The Jewish cemetery Weisweiler is located in the Weisweiler district of Eschweiler in the Aachen city region ( North Rhine-Westphalia ).

This cemetery is the oldest Jewish burial place in the Rhineland and one of the oldest in this state. It has been entered in the list of monuments of the city of Eschweiler under No. 82 since 1992.

The Weisweiler cemetery was probably created in the 16th century; the oldest tombstone so far is from 1691. The cemetery was occupied from the 17th century to 1940. Today there are still 50 tombstones ( Mazewot ). The last funeral took place on July 19, 1940.

A group of students from the Franziskus-Gymnasium in Vossenack discovered 14 previously unknown tombstones in the course of a project in the oldest part of the cemetery. They were re-erected and partially restored with the help of state and municipal funds.
