Arthur Preil (born January 6, 1887 in Leipzig , † April 17, 1954 in Leipzig-Engelsdorf ) was a German folk singer and humorist.

Life

Preil completed his training as a bookseller at the Ullstein publishing house in Berlin. He then worked at the Reclam publishing house in Leipzig as head of the "Humoristica" division. He began to write couplets at a young age . His trademark was the Saxon dialect . Preil began his career with the Leipzig Krystallpalast singers . He also ran a music shop in Leipzig with his wife. The Isiphon record company was the first to bring out recordings with Preil, followed later by Deutsche Grammophon and others. Around 400 recordings and a large number of radio broadcasts made him one of the most successful humorists in Germany. After the mid-thirties, Preil had its own guest performance director with its own ensemble. The later Kessler twins also worked in this as children . After 1945 Preil stayed in Leipzig. He also gave guest appearances, appeared in variety theaters and in events of the State Concert and Guest Performance Directorate.

Arthur Preil had a son, Arthur Preil junior, who also appeared as a humorist. The author, actor and cabaret artist Hans-Joachim Preil was his nephew.
