Arthur Villard

Arthur Villard (born October 4, 1917 , † May 15, 1995 in Biel ) was a Swiss politician ( SP ).

Life

Villard went to school in Biel and from 1933 to 1937 attended the teacher training college in Pruntrut . After that he worked as a homeworker and peddler . From 1943 to 1951 he was a teacher in Evilard and after his "release from 1953 in Biel-Madretsch ".

In the 1960s, Villard was President of the International of War Resisters , the Swiss section of the War Resisters' International, and was convicted several times in Switzerland for conscientious objection . He was "co-founder of a section of the Switzerland-Soviet Union society ". From 1966 to 1979 he was the Grand Councilor of the Canton of Bern ; from 1968 to 1976 he was a city councilor in Biel, and from 1976 to 1979 Biel city council (city government). In 1970 he and two other “nonconformists” received a Dürrenmatt literary prize from Friedrich Dürrenmatt ; who also dedicated a "psalm" to him. From 1971 until his resignation in 1979 he was a member of the National Council .

Villard's estate is in the Swiss Social Archives .
